I've always held that the motoring press weren't willing enough to call a minivan a minivan. Crossover about 80% of the time means "IT'S A MINIVAN BUT DON'T TELL ANYBODY, K?" Even the PT Cruiser was arguably a minivan more so than a wagon. A terrible dwarf minivan, but a minivan nonetheless.
"But it's AWD with ground clearance - it can't be a minivan!" Yeah. Uh huh.

I have found myself lacking of the ability to even.

To be fair, CR-V's and like are more wagons than minvivans

... because of course they did.

It moves children, blends into a crowd, is reliable and affordable enough. Seems like it does all the SUV things perfectly.

Well, perhaps. It's really hard to know where to draw the line, though. If all the minivans are basically car platforms with tall rooflines, and all the crossovers are too, does it come down to "does it have sliding doors?"/relative height of heightened roofline?
'Cause a functional difference only in sliding doors or lack thereof - that shit's silly.

They fixed the horrid front end.
Thank goodness.

I does look good on the lead pic though

So what's this ?
![]() 10/15/2014 at 10:40 |

Short enough to be a wagon... maybe. Unusually high relative roofline. If you raise it about 2-3 inches, it hits the right height to step into like a minivan or SUV, so BAM - SUV, apparently. It's like magic.
The key to "is this really the same thing?" query is whether the same type of vehicle is used by both grandmas who can't get down into a low car anymore and soccer moms. Maybe.

There is no utility in this SUV. It's really more for Activities, but not so much Sports, more for General sorts of Activities. And I doubt you'd really make it anywhere in this "Vehicle" before falling asleep, so it's more of a big giant Yawn than a Vehicle. I feel the acronym could use an update.

The Forester won last year and in 2009.
The Outback won in 2010.
CX-9 in 2008.
This is not surprising.

Meanwhile a GLA AMG45 is hooning down some dirt roads not caring what an SUV is.

I actually wanted to see what, if any reasoning they had. After reading the article I haven't the slightest clue as to why its the SUV of the year.
Advancement in design - "design was low on the priority list"
Engineering excellence - talk forever how the engine is upgraded, even though its a 2.4 with 185hp(which is the same as last year) and 181lb-ft connected to a CVT. Then they say "...0-60 time, at 8.5 seconds. That's still mid-pack in the class…"
Performance of intended function - it has more interior space for its small exterior.
Efficiency - "But our Real MPG results are disappointingly similar to those of our last CR-V automatic with AWD: 20.6 city/28.7 highway/23.6 combined mpg, compared with last year's 20.5/28.9/23.6"
Safety- they have no idea, but it has lane assist now.
Value - well its a Honda.
Motor Trend - " And your SUV of the year is?!?!? .... uhhh, well this thing? Yea the CRV!"

I saw a mint one the other night. The want was totally there. AWD GMC.

Still ugly. That rear end isn't right.

My younger brother drives an Astro LT. Original engine got overheated and spun bearings (how we got it from a friend of my dad's), and we stuck a Jasper rebuild in it. Purpley burgundy brownish, tan velour interior, still shipshape. It's his baby. It replaced a half-million mile Volvo 240 diesel wagon with decaying body and wiring harness.

I showed my brother's one to my RL friend, opponaut KusabiSensei, and the response was "this pleases Gaga".

My 1st gen is more like an actual SUV...but made for soccer moms . It isn't difficult to see why they would eventually make it into a minivan in makeup.

I'm fairly sure that the CR-V has to be the most boring SUV on the market.

Not caring what IT is.
Also, happy late birthday !

Thanks! This is why I miss the all over Oppo birthday posts. It was like Oppo was dedicated to a single opponaut for one day. I don't mind missing out on it myself so much as I enjoy making posts for one person all over Oppo.
